Here's what's happening in FIU Recreation Services:
MATT O'CONNOR LEAVING FIU
Assistant Director for Intramural & Club Sports Matt O'Connor is leaving FIU for the University of Virginia. Matt, who has been at FIU since 2005, will become UVA's new Director of Intramurals as of August 4.
Matt has been resposnible for growing the FIU Intramural Sports Program significantly over the past years. He was instrumental in getting the Residence Hall League started, and has solidified the training of our student intramural officials. Under his tutoring, FIU produced its first All-American Intramural Official (for Flag Football) in Antonio Gonzalez, who graduated Spring, 2013.
Matt has also overseen a Sports Club program that has grown from just a handful to now over 30 active student organizations, many competing nationally. And he coordinated the Adventure Recreation programming since it began, organizing whitewater rafting trips on the Chatooga River in Georgia, the annual Ski Trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and local trips like Horseback Riding in Davie, Biking in Shark Valley, and even student trips to Miami Dolphins games.
Please join us in thanking Matt for his 9 years of excellent service to FIU Recreation Services and the University and wish him the best in his future endeavors. To email Matt...
