QUALIFICATIONS

• Earned Bachelor's Degree in related field
• GPA of at least 3.0 (in the last 60 hours of upper division) and a GRE score of 300 or higher required along with completed application to FIU's University Graduate School by April 16th. Must be accepted into an FIU graduate program prior to official offer.
• Pursuit of Master's degree in an FIU graduate program: Recreation & Sports Management, Physical Education, Sports & Fitness Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Therapy (doctoral only), Journalism, Higher Education, Hospitality Management, Athletic Training, and Health Services Administration are among some of those available
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent "people" skills
• The ability to work in a diverse environment

POSITIONS

1. Fitness (1 current opening)
   1. Responsibilities [details]
      1. Assist in planning, promotion, and programming for fitness activities and events for the department
      2. Assist in the recruitment, training and evaluation of group fitness instructors and personal trainers
      3. Applicants with Group Fitness Instruction background may be asked to teach classes
      4. Responsible to the Fitness Coordinator.
   2. Preferred Work Experience
      1. Group exercise instruction and/or personal training experience
      2. Experience in programming fitness/health activities and events
      3. Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
      4. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
2. Facility Management (no current openings)

      1. Assist in planning, promotion, programming, scheduling, daily operation, recordkeeping and assessment of the Recreation Center and other recreation facilities
      2. Perform on-site supervision of events (including evening and/or weekends) and student staff (including building managers, customer service/weight room attendants, and lifeguards)
      3. Responsible to the Recreation Facilities Coordinator.
   2. Preferred Work Experience:
      1. Supervisory experience with recreation facilities and staff
      2. Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
      3. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
3. Intramural Sports (no current openings)
   1. Responsibilities [details]
      1. Assist in planning, promotion, programming, scheduling, daily operation, recordkeeping and evaluation of leagues, tournaments and special events
      2. Perform on-site supervision of intramural activities (including evening and/or weekends) and student staff
      3. Assist in the recruitment, training and evaluation of student officials, assistants and supervisors
      4. Responsible to the Intramural and Club Sport Coordinator.
   2. Preferred Work Experience
      1. Officiating experience and commitment to official development
      2. Supervisory experience with students, staff, and/or participants
      3. Knowledge of intramural administrative policies
      4. Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
      5. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
4. Marketing/PR (no current openings)
   1. Responsibilities [details]
      1. Assist in marketing and promotion of all departmental programs and services via print, web and personal appearance formats, as well as through leadership/ participation in Orientation, Welcome Week, Homecoming and other campus and departmental special events/activities
      2. Responsible to the Director.
   2. Preferred Work Experience
      1. Broad portfolio of quality work across the journalistic field including, but not limited to, print, web, and video formats
      2. Experience with appropriate software applications (PC and/or Mac).

STIPEND

$5,500/semester plus tuition waiver and $500/semester book allowance for a 9-month appointment (20 hours per week); 9 credit hours/sem; additional financial assistance may be available; summer employment opportunities may also be available. Annual health insurance is paid by the student as an employee benefit unless he/she opts out. Payment of FIU student fees (Health, Athletics, Activities & Services) is required by the student each semester (approx. $680/sem).
