STUDENT

  • Currently-enrolled FIU students with up-to-date payment of the Activity and Services (A&S) fee are automatically REC members, pay no additional membership fee, and are permitted to use and participate in all MMC Recreation Services activities.

UNIVERSITY MEMBER (Rates)

  • Employees of the University, including Faculty, Administrative (formerly A&P), Staff (formerly USPS) and full-time OPS staff, are eligible to purchase a REC Membership. Benefited employees may purchase a REC Membership either on an annual or semester basis, or through payroll deduction. Only employees receiving full benefits can use the payroll deduction method. Employees taking classes under the FIU Employee Tuition Waiver must either pay the A&S Fee or purchase a membership.
  • Students Not Currently Enrolled (SNCE):
    • Not Enrolled in the Fall/Spring
      • FIU students not enrolled in classes for either the Fall or Spring semester may purchase a membership for that semester for $110. Proof of enrollment during the previous semester is required.
    • Not Enrolled in the Summer
      • FIU students not enrolled in classes for either Summer A, B, or C may purchase a membership for $60 that is good for the entire Summer (through the day before Fall classes begin). Students MUST show proof of previous Spring semester enrollment using one of the following:
        • Previous Spring class schedule
        • Previous Spring grade report
        • SASS report with previous Spring semester information.
      • Incoming students who will be taking their first classes at FIU in the upcoming Fall semester are eligible to purchase the summer membership with proof of the following:
        • Upcoming Fall schedule of classes (note that this may not be available until July)
      • The summer membership will not be discounted at any point during the semester.
    • Dual Enrollment Program
      • Dual Degree Program students (17 years of age or older) are eligible to purchase memberships at the SNCE rate (click here for more information on who qualifies for Dual Degree enrollment). Individuals under 18 years of age must have parent/legal guardian signature and show proof of program enrollment.

AFFILIATE MEMBER (Rates)

  • GENERAL ALUMNI may purchase a REC Membership on either an annual or term basis. Alumni are defined as graduates or individuals who have accumulated 30 or more credit hours from Florida International University. Alumni members must be able to present proof of status (diploma or transcript) with the completed REC Membership Application Form upon purchase.
  • FIU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION members will receive a discount on the regular REC membership rate. To qualify, a current-year FIU Alumni Association membership card/key tag must be presented at time of purchase. (Does not apply to non-group member spouses.) Click here for the FIU Alumni Association Membership page.
  • The SPOUSE / SAME-SEX PARTNER (SSP) of any of the above categories are eligible to purchase a REC Membership. The qualifying Spouse member must present proof of marriage and his/her Panther ID along with the spouse's completed application form at the time of purchase. The qualifying Same-Sex Partner (SSP) must provide proof of status as listed in the Human Resources Policies (www.fiu.edu/hr) under "Same-Sex Domestic Partnership Health Insurance Stipend". The qualifying Employee member may add their spouse/SSP to the payroll deduction option. There are no provisions for dependent memberships.
  • RETIREES/EMERITUS are those individuals who, having been employed by the University for a length of time, have officially retired from service and are recognized as such by the Office of Human Resources. Retirees may purchase a REC Membership on either an annual or term basis.
  • PARENTS OF FIU STUDENTS are eligible to purchase memberships. The student must be enrolled at the time of purchase and remained enrolled during the entire term of the membership (semester or annual).
  • SENIOR CITIZEN FEE WAIVERS: Florida residents 60 years of age or older who are properly registered with the FIU Registrar's Office and wishing to use the Recreation Center must purchase an Affiliate Membership at the Alumni Association rate. Proof of enrollment is required at time of purchase. Click here for more information.

COMMUNITY INDIVIDUALS

While the Recreation Center is not open to the general public, individuals with a strong desire to gain REC membership have the opportunity to do so by becoming part of the FIU Alumni Association (even if there is no prior affiliation with FIU).

  • The FIU Alumni Association offers a "Friend of FIU" membership category for an annual membership fee of $50 (individual) or $75 (couple with same address). Click here to go to the Alumni Association web site for more details.
  • Once that membership is attained, REC membership is then available at the FIU Alumni Association rate. As with regular FIU Alumni Association members, a current-year membership card/key tag must be presented at the time of purchase.
